About Us

Western Growers helps facilitate modifications of the “Commodity Specific Food Safety Guidelines for the Production and Harvest of Lettuce and Leafy Greens”. These guidelines are utilized by both the Arizona and California Leafy Green Marketing Agreements (LGMAs). This amendment process is known by the leafy green sector as the “leafy green metrics amendment process.”

Western Growers’ goal to open up and streamline this process resulted in the development of this website.

The leafy green metrics amendment process allows the leafy green sector to periodically incorporate new science and best practices into the Arizona and California LGMA- approved guidelines for the safe production and harvest of lettuce and leafy greens. Western Growers accepts proposed changes and/or comments based on the Master Calendar (see attachment below). The Master Calendar provides a timeframe of all announced comment periods and web discussions. The calendar will be continually updated with future dates as they are known. See "The Know" tab for details.

After each discussion and comment period, WG will summarize and present all materials (suggestions, changes, comments, attendance records, etc.) to both the Arizona LGMA Technical Subcommittee and California LGMA Technical Committee. Arizona and California’s LGMA groups then use the materials supplied by WG to update documents and procedures.

We hope you find this website informative and our process intuitive, accessible and transparent. Please send any comments, questions and feedback to Sonia Salas at ssalas@wga.com
