WG has been leading a project to release a fully-revised version of the LGMA-approved metrics. As part of this project, 4 listening session and one webinar have been hosted to allow impacted parties to provide feedback. This effort is beyond the current annual LGMA-approved metrics amendment process managed by WG. This initiative incorporates peer-reviewed research presented at the Center of Produce Safety Symposiums, input from an independent expert review panel, the Harmonized Food Safety Standard and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Produce Safety Rule.

WG has been working with iDecisionSciences, LLC on a project to release a fully-revised version of the LGMA-approved metrics. This effort is beyond the current annual LGMA-approved metrics amendment process managed by WG. This initiative incorporates peer-reviewed research presented at the Center of Produce Safety Symposiums, input from an independent expert review panel, the Harmonized Food Safety Standard and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Produce Safety Rule. As a result, a revised LGMA audit checklist could be in place later this year.

Western Growers hosted a webinar early in January 2016 and also presented proposed changes to the leafy green metrics to the California LGMA Technical Committee on January 12th and the Arizona LGMA Technical Subcommittee on January 25th. During the Arizona and California LGMA leadership meeting hosted on January 29, these proposed changes were considered/approved in California only. Arizona will consider/discuss them later this year. Best practices related to the management of cadmium in spinach fields are effective now in California, audits to verify them will start on April 1st.

January 8th Webinar Materials

On January 8, 2016, Western Growers hosted a webinar to share proposed changes to the LGMA Accepted metrics to address heavy metals in soils. This webinar was meant to encourage an online discussion about potential changes to the LGMA-accepted metrics related to cadmium. Below are the documents that were discussed during this webinar.

Western Growers is hosting a webinar on January 8, 2016 to discuss proposed changes to the LGMA Accepted metrics. This presentation will offer an opportunity to discuss potential changes related to cadmium, to share the rationale behind them and to solicit industry input and feedback.

Everyone will be muted during this webinar. In order to have the opportunity to speak during our discussion, participants must enter their “PIN” number when they join the audio portion of this webinar. We will not be able to unmute participants who do not enter their PIN numbers.

From March 20, 2015 to April 24, 2015, WG received a few comments (see attachments) related to the issues open for comment during this period (see below). During this upcoming webinar, WG will highlight those comments and offer webinar participants an opportunity to provide feedback or ask questions.

Comments and feedback received during this webinar are important to vet proposed changes/comments through this process. The outcome of this webinar will be summarized and presented to the Arizona and California LGMAs this summer (likely June and July respectively).

On August 20, 2014, Western Growers hosted a webinar to get feedback on 20 proposed revisions to the leafy green guidelines submitted through this process. This webinar was originally scheduled on June 30, 2014 but postponed for logistical issues.

Four different parties submitted proposed revisions that will be reviewed/discussed by the Arizona Leafy Greens Technical Subcommittee & California LGMA Technical Committee by the end of September and early in October 2014.

Two word versions of these issues are attached for this purpose (the first one includes parts of the Arizona guidance document and the second one of the California one).
